Helping Us Provide the Best Care Possible
Comprehensive eye care is more than looking at your eyes—our team uses many diagnostic tools to get a complete picture of your ocular health. We’re proud to have quality technology for all our patients, helping protect their vision.
Learn more about the technology we use at Howard Optometry, and you’ll know what to expect during your next visit.
The Importance of Our Technology
While our team can diagnose and treat eye problems in their earliest stages, we can’t do this without some help. Our advanced technology helps us accurately identify eye conditions during your eye exam.
Utilizing technology benefits our practice and helps us provide you with comprehensive eye care. Diagnostic technology is vital when we treat eye diseases, helping protect your eye health and vision.
Our Technology
We use many different diagnostic tools to help provide you with the best possible eye care. Our technology varies from imaging devices to measurement tools, depending on your vision and eye health.
Some of our technology includes corneal topography, the Oculus Keratograph, optical coherence tomography, the Optos Optomap, and pachymetry.
Corneal Topography
Corneal topography is an imaging device for mapping the cornea’s surface. This technology creates a 3D image that shows the intricate details of your eye. Our team uses this technology when assessing your eyes for contacts.
Oculus Keratograph
The Oculus Keratograph is a version of a corneal topographer we use for diagnosing dry eye. We use this technology to assess several aspects related to dry eyes, such as how fast it takes for your tears to dry, the state of your meibomian glands, and examining the layers of your tear film.
Optical Coherence Tomography
Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a noninvasive test for taking images of the retina. This technology measures the different layers of the retina. These images are beneficial for helping us identify changes in your eye health and identify symptoms of eye disease as early as possible.
Optos Optomap
The Optos Optomap is a retinal imaging tool for identifying signs of eye disease in its earliest stages. The Optomap can take images of the retina and optic nerve to help us diagnose glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and age-related macular degeneration.
Pachymetry
Pachymetry is a fast, painless test used to measure the thickness of your cornea. This test can help us see if the cornea is swollen, assist us when determining your eligibility for laser eye surgery, and help us better measure your eye pressure when testing for glaucoma.
